What Is Restorative Dentistry?

Restorative dentistry involves using specialized dental materials to restore damaged teeth. For children and teens, this usually means using fillings to repair teeth that have been affected by tooth decay. However, other treatments like dental crowns may be used to treat teeth with extensive decay, or to repair a tooth that has been damaged by oral trauma. At our office in Rancho Santa Margarita, we offer fillings for both primary and permanent teeth, as well as tooth-colored dental crowns when a filling is not sufficient.

Does My Child Need a Filling?

Tooth decay is extremely common in children. Even with proper oral care, there’s a chance your child may develop a cavity. If they do, it’s important to get treatment with a dental filling as soon as you can because if a cavity is left untreated, it will only get worse and cause more trouble.

The best way to know if your child needs a filling is to come in for an appointment every six months. During routine appointments, we will look for signs of tooth decay and determine if a filling is necessary to restore your child’s mouth.

What Are Zirconia Crowns for Primary Teeth?

While many dentists use stainless steel crowns to restore primary (baby) teeth, we also use zirconia crowns. Zirconia is a tooth-like ceramic material that is extremely strong and durable, and looks just like a natural tooth. By using zirconia restorations for primary teeth, we ensure that your child’s enamel is protected and that their tooth isn’t discolored or gray.

How Does Restoring My Child’s Smile Early Affect Confidence?

No matter how old you are, your smile affects your confidence and emotional well-being. If your child has a dental issue, the pain can interfere with their daily life and the appearance of dental damage can shake their confidence. Getting proper treatment for your child’s oral health issues as early as possible will ensure that they enjoy their smile and that they remain healthy. Brushing off dental care will only make oral issues worse, so come in for an appointment at Willow Pediatric Dentistry as soon as you notice a problem!
